Johannesburg north residents are faced with trauma as an unidentified man continues to house break into the middle of the night to steal valuable possessions and set alight he houses he broke into since 2020.

This social dilemma has been going on for 2 years when the residents realised a pattern of an arsonist in the neighbourhood, namely in Rosebank, Fairsand and Kew just to name a few. A resident described the arsonist as “immortal” and further more expressed how this has caused them to live in fear and terror. According to SAPS Provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Murudili, the alleged arsonist has a file of murder and burglary crime acts that that add up to 25 arson cases just in a matter of a year. The police force unit along with the Serious and Violent Crime (SVC) partnered up to hunt down the suspect beginning of September 2022

This was done through various tip offs around the northern suburbs, picture submissions and also whereabouts where he dominates the most. In one of the crimes reported, a man died in relation to inhalation of smoke after his house was broken into and set alight by the suspect. Fidelity services working with SAPS arrested the suspect. Murudili, stated: “At about 18:00PM, the suspect was marked walking near Germiston, where he was arrested and taken in by the police”.

The suspect will appear at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court during October.
