Linda Twala (75) is a well-respected man
in the community of Alexandra and surrounds areas of Johannesburg North. His
memorable work and adamant will of change in the community has recognized him
as the father of the community. Based on his sole experiences from the apartheid
era, he continues to make certain that black communities are provided for and
are put first.
Born in 1947 and breed in Alexandra, Twala
developed his sense of generosity when he was 23 for the people of the
Alexandra community, during this time is when he realized the effect of poor
services especially of burial companies and decided to open his own undertaker
company, Twala-Ama-Afrika, which
translates ‘Carry the Africans’ . His company caters for families that do not
have financial security or are too poor to afford economic services.
Twala shortly after started the
Alexandra Society for the Care and Welfare of the Aged and Disabled Persons
called Itlhokomeleng, which focused
on the wellbeing of the elderly in the community situated at 8th
avenue.
Ntalle Leroko (56) descried Twala as a
humble man with a great cause, she further states: “Linda Twala is a good man that cooks for the elderly when needed and
helps the homeless get shelter in the community, his work is fundamental and is
a very friendly person”.
Other community centers that Linda Twala
started include, Thusong, Phuthaditjhaba which are centered at the heart of the
Alexandra community that aids in helping primary, high school and tertiary
students to have a place they can use for homeworks with provided computers and
Wi-Fi.
Mr. Twala continues to be the biggest
respondent to positive change, feeding and looking after the community at
large.
